This summer, Mettaminds brought together children and families for two creative wellbeing workshops at The New Art Gallery Walsall, creating a space to relax, learn, move and have fun together.
Across the sessions, 17 children and 9 parents took part in a mix of breathing techniques, Tai Chi, relaxation, nutrition and creative activities. The aim was simple: to give families practical ways to support wellbeing while enjoying time together.
Children explored the benefits of slowing down through breathing and gentle Tai Chi, while conversations around nutrition introduced natural foods including melon, pomegranate and Chinese pear. We encouraged families to think about the importance of fresh, natural foods and developing a positive relationship with nutrition.
Creativity was at the heart of the sessions. Children experimented with air-dry clay, natural materials and lentils, creating summer-inspired hanging mobiles, hearts, nature sculptures and colourful pictures. Using everyday and natural materials encouraged imagination while providing a calm, hands-on experience.
A special thank you goes to Ruth from the Creative Hub at The New Art Gallery Walsall for her support, creativity and warm welcome.
Most importantly, the families told us that the sessions made a difference:
“Very relaxing. We really enjoyed the session and it has helped as a family.”
“We want to find out more about nutrition and will contact Mettaminds.”
“My child really enjoyed the Tai Chi and making hearts with clay.”
“Thank you for a really well-balanced activity.”
For Mettaminds, this is what accessible wellbeing is about — creating opportunities for families to breathe, move, create, connect and learn together.
